Finals are heating up for firefighting cadets

 With finals season here, one group of Del Mar College students found themselves in the line of fire rather than with a blue book and No. 2 pencil in front of them.  Ten cadets with the Del Mar College Regional Fire Academy on Nov. 17 underwent one of the tests required by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection, which is part of DMC’s program completion requirements as well. Drama students fearlessly take the stage

 After over a year of no productions due to COVID-19, the Del Mar College Drama Department is finally back. Drama students started their 2021-22 season off with director Carl Yowell’s interpretation of “Circle Mirror Transformation.” The Annie Baker play, which opened Nov.5 in the Finley Theatre, is about a group of individuals who find themselves experiencing heartbreaks and breakthroughs during a six-week session of a community center drama class. College holds drive-thru to give away candy, info to future students

Del Mar gave away treats to scare away the fear any prospective students may have about registering for spring. Del Mar’s Outreach and Recruitment Office teamed up with Early College Programs to host Trunk or Treat and Scare Your Holds Away events on Oct. 27. Community members had the opportunity to receive information on how to become a Del Mar College student, along with receiving information from various college departments, and free goodie bags full of treats while also dropping off any documents prospective students need to register for spring. Drama students preparing to perform again

The Drama Department is ready to take the stage with its first fall show since the start of the pandemic.  Since the department had wrapped up its last show just a week before Del Mar College closed its doors for the pandemic, the costume shop, scene shop and Finley Theatre had no lights on to shine upon talent. Speech and Debate team seeking new members

The Vocal Vikings, Del Mar College’s speech and debate team, is seeking new members ahead of its season opener at the Bayou Bucket swing tournament Oct. 23, which will be held virtually. Students will have the opportunity to compete in speaking and storytelling events against other Texas schools such as The University of Texas and Texas State. Competitive events include Impromptu Speaking, Informative Speaking, Prose Interpretation, Dramatic Duo, Extemporaneous Speaking, Persuasive Speaking, Program Oral Interpretation, After Dinner Speaking, Communication Analysis, Drama Interpretation and Poetry Interpretation. ‘Squid Game’ an intense series from South Korea Netflix has released another mind-boggling masterpiece series, “Squid Game,” that quickly climbed its way to rank No. 1 in the U.S. This South Korean series follows a broke and desperate Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), who is targeted to join the game.
