Students, teachers to be recognized

They say the pen is mightier than the sword, but finding a way to utilize it can be the difficult part. The college will honor individuals listed in “Who’s Who Among Community College Students,” the College’s Outstanding Academic Students in each department, East and West Campus Teachers of the Year and also the 2016 Hall of Fame inductees. Grab a slice of Italy here in Corpus Christi

Pizza is one of the greatest creations for a struggling college student. It is fairly inexpensive and lasts for a few meals. Collaboratory lab holds grand opening

The Collaboratory lab was meant to be an open and safe place for students to receive tutoring, but even before the lab had its April 6 grand opening, it had already become something more. “I had no place to study,” lab assistant Victoria Gonzales said. “I walked up here and now this is like my second home.” Students who frequently visit know that walking in, they’ll be met by a team of their peers, ready to help. Adriana King/Foghorn Jerry Young (from left), Richard Trongson, Michael Martinez, Juan Chavez, Victoria Gonzales and Brian Hill socialize at the Collaboratory lab’s grand…

Dual credit benefits us all

For growing numbers of students, dual credit is a vital part of the Del Mar College experience. This service gives high school students the opportunity to get ahead in their college careers. In the 2014-15 fiscal year, DMC reported a $2.1 million loss in relation to dual credit classes. Dual credit students pay $99.99 for a three-hour course. A traditional student pays $353 for the same course. Despite the loss, President Mark Escamilla recently told the Foghorn that the college has no plans to raise the rate. Simply put, the benefits outweigh the cost. The purpose of the dual credit…
