“You only get one chance to make a first impression.”

This was one piece of advice that was repeated by every speaker at the Dress For Success Fashion Show held on Oct. 22 in the Retama Room.

Although attendance was low, the audience left the fashion show with greater knowledge of the best ways to present themselves at future interviews.

The purpose of the presentation was to show students how to “Dress For Success” on a budget.

Men’s Warehouse was in attendance with different outfits for everyone to see what clothes work together and what don’t. Representatives from Sears were also present to hand out and accept applications.

One tip given by the Dress For Success speakers was to have good hygiene.

Smell great but don’t wear heavy perfume. It’s important to smell clean and fresh while not overwhelming your potential employer. Tattoos and ear gauges should not be visible, they said.

Also, look sharp but don’t cause a distraction. Clean khakis and a polo shirt are simple and acceptable for interviews.

Don’t forget, cellphones are not part of your outfit.

Turn your phone off, not on vibrate, before going into your interview.

Leaving your phone at home or in your car is also a good idea because you only get one chance to make a first impression.
