Intramurals adds soccer league, more

Del Mar College’s intramural program is starting the semester with a spring kickoff to introduce new sporting events.

The program released its spring 2020 schedule, adding more one-day events and a new soccer league that will last for two weeks. Yoga will also be held on Fridays for the majority of the semester.

“Last semester, we had a one-day event with soccer and it was really good. So I decided to try a league version of that,” said Kristy Urbick, intramural director. “We’re continuing with yoga this semester and that’s open to students, faculty and staff.”

The spring kickoff will take place at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 23 in the Harvin Center.

“We’re going to have Connect Four, Giant Jenga, Cornhole and prizes. We’ll be handing out T-shirts that have the intramural logo on them and be passing out information to students,” Urbick said.

The recreation facilities also have reopened with new hours.

“Those have been extended because that is what students have been wanting. So now, the gym and fitness center will be open till 6 instead of 5,” Urbick said.

Urbick has goals for the program this spring, as well.

“I want to continue to grow the leagues and really try to push this yoga. If there are any other activities that students want to do, we’ll continue to add that since we had success with that. Also trying to find other fitness activities and trying to grow that fitness component” Urbick said.
