From ‘One day’ to ‘Today’–siblings realize dreams

As graduation approaches for Del Mar College students, the journey for some has proved DMC lives up to its slogan: “Dreams. Delivered.” Rudy and Brandy Zuniga are brother and sister, and they will graduate together in the December commencement. Rudy and Brandy both faced many obstacles on their Del Mar journey, but now they will graduate with associate degrees and continue dreams they didn’t know they would be able to pursue. “I faced many troubles before college,” said Rudy Zuniga. “I was caught up in a life of crime, drugs and gangs. Award-winning, Texas-born author Diane Gonzales Bertrand used her experiences as a writer to tell Del Mar College students how they can enjoy their own lives at a recent event on East Campus. ‘Daughter of the Drackan’ immerses readers in novel’s world

“Daughter of the Drackan,” the recently released novel and first of a two-book series, is an astounding introduction of a dark world experienced by a woman who demands to rule her own life. Although she experiences strange blackouts and wakes in blood, her drackans cannot tell her why they occur or what happens when she disappears.…

Some students claimed to know Satan or agreed they were going to hell, but they continued walking and didn’t comment further. “I know there are a lot of God haters on this campus that don’t want to hear this,” James said. “But you are slaves to sin.” Larry Adams, a student…

“At some point in time, you will play the casualty in someone else’s story,” Jereme Ford, a self-love and domestic violence speaker, told Del Mar College students. In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Student Leadership and Campus Life presented Ford, who spoke on Oct. 19 in the Harvin Center Retama Room on East Campus. “He’s interactive … we try to bring speakers that interest the students and Jereme stood out from many others,” said Beverly Cage, director of Student Leadership and Campus Life. Cage said Ford has the power to inspire students. Ford compared the lasting effects of his…
