National art show marks 50th anniversary

In 1967, art professor Joe Cain speculated that the way to create an art exhibition worthy of national acclaim was to focus on two genres, drawing and small sculpture, and to bring in a nationally recognized judge. It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains. Filmmakers plan campus visit

Prominent filmmakers John Sayles and Maggie Renzi will visit Del Mar College on Feb. 8 to participate in a screening of the film “Lone Star” at Wolfe Recital Hall. Mark Robbins, associate professor of history, discussed the importance of the two filmmakers’ work as well as how the film impacts our community. “Sayles and Renzi’s films engage themes such as immigration, migration, labor and activism, which are similar issues that we deal with in our community,” Robbins said. Suicide Forest has a dark legend behind it

While many horror films try to scare viewers with visual tricks or suspenseful camera work, “The Forest,” one of the latest in the genre to hit theaters, aims to keep viewers on edge with its theme of psychological horror, which relies on the characters’ fears and emotional instability. Honoring those who have protected us

  Del Mar College celebrated the service of military veterans on Veterans Day by holding a memorial on East Campus and offering free haircuts on West Campus. People gathered in the Retama Room in the Harvin Center on East Campus to commemorate the loss of those who have served honorably in the U.S. armed forces. Del Mar College was honored as one of the top higher education institutions on Twitter by the Texas Social Media Research Institute blog on Oct. 14. The blog highlighted Del Mar for its use on the social media platform based on a Klout score of at least 45 and number of followers. According to Klout.com, the Klout score is a number between one and 100 that represents an organization’s influence. The higher the score, the more influential an organization is. Del Mar College has a Klout score of 49 and the college’s Twitter account, @delmarcollege, has more than 3,660 followers.…

Bones clattered and teeth chattered at Fall Festival

Del Mar College held its annual spooky fun fair on Oct. 30 in the Harvin Center on East Campus featuring goblins and games, prizes for best costumes and food and fun for everyone. Del Mar College’s Student Leadership and Campus Life sponsored the event, which featured several registered student organizations. Students had a howling good time while helping student groups raise funds for their organizations and the worthy community causes they support.
