Gym repairs don’t stop intramural program

Many closures are preventing events and students from getting involved but the intramural sports program is still providing. This semester DMC has been under constant renovations, and with the gym under roof repairs, intramural sports events have been updated. Although the gym is going to be closed for the rest of the spring semester, the intramural sports program still plans to host activities for students. They are encouraging students to participate in the upcoming events, which will also include tennis, four-square, tennis and racquet ball. Intramurals brings back in-person events

Dodgeball, basketball, indoor soccer and more to return While many events will remain virtual this semester, DMC’s Intramural Program is bringing back some of its more popular games for students to play in person. Students can look forward to dodgeball, basketball, indoor soccer, capture the flag and more this spring. The department also held a yoga event on Jan. 21, which will continue both virtually and in-person. Special Olympics seeking volunteers

 The South Texas Special Olympics is searching for students from Del Mar College to volunteer for upcoming events. Del Mar College encourages their students to experience volunteer work and take advantage of the opportunity to help others and their community. The Special Olympics, which originated in 1969, is an international organization that offers many opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities while participating in sports. “Our goal is to promote inclusion and equity throughout sports across the globe and to promote an active, healthy lifestyle for everyone,” said Noah Willoughby, volunteer services manager of Special Olympics Texas. Intramurals holding virtual events

Students have several ways to stay active The fall semester is underway, and intramurals have also made a return.  There are several virtual fitness sessions students can join. Activities include Zumba, yoga and the 100 Mile and Steps Challenge. There will be links posted for each activity at https://www.delmar.edu/offices/kinesiology/intramurals.html.  The livestream for Zumba, which began Sept. 12, is led by Coach Perla Soliz. Student Activity Fee funds masks, hand sanitizer

Other changes include new virtual offerings from intramural sports Students will continue to pay a $15 Student Activity Fee this semester despite most classes being online. The fee covers several student services, including providing funds to all clubs and organizations hosting events and activities during the fall 2020 semester.
