By Kira Hays / Reporter  “You’re killing me Smalls!” Guessing which movie the Corpus Christi Ride-In Theater chose for this month’s screening shouldn’t be hard to figure out after hearing that famous quote. On March 28, the classic baseball family comedy, “The Sandlot,” will be shown at the Watergardens. As the new kid in town, Scotty Smalls wants nothing more than to make friends. Wanting to learn how to play baseball to impress his stepdad, Scotty turns to the town’s best baseball player, Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez, for help.

Outright ban would go too far

Editorial On February 26 the Student Government Association held a topic discussion on whether or not smoking on campus should be banned. Although the faculty voted unanimously for a smoke/tobacco free campus, students were split on the decision. According to a group known as Americans for Nonsmokers’ rights, as of January 2 1,182 college campuses and universities have adopted smoke-free policies.

Stretching out the possibilities

Many may be seeking an outlet to relieve stress. Elizabeth Venegas, a Del Mar College student and a yogi (as those who practice yoga are called), said yoga has benefited her life in numerous ways. “I feel awake and alert and full of energy and internal peace when I finish yoga. Sonia Silva, co-founder and partner with Michelle Burden have opened up a new drive-thru for drinks, food, alcoholic beverages, and snacks. Cassidy’s plans big block party for St. Patrick’s Day

By Kira Hays / Reporter Keeping the St. Patrick’s Day tradition alive, Cassidy’s Irish Pub co-owner Michael Treiber is pulling out all the stops for this year’s Cassidy’s St. Patrick’s Day Block Festival. “It all started because, on St. Patrick’s Day, the pub would be at max capacity at 5 p.m. and we had to turn a lot of people away,” Treiber said. “That’s when I decided we needed to expand. We did, and now this year is going to be the biggest yet.“

Two big reasons to smile

This smash off-Broadway hit, set in 1958, takes the audience to the Springfield prom as Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy and Suzy tell the tales of their lives and loves, all through song and dance. Cosmetology program has high success rates By Kelsey Heatley / Managing editor The cosmetology program at Del Mar College offers students hands-on experience in areas such as skin care, haircutting and chemical treatments. Since fall 2010, the program has had a perfect passing rate on the PSI Licensure certification written exam that is required by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Sandra L. Garcia, an associate professor, said the passing rate has been good throughout the years.
