Hidden Figures Review: a little known story rockets to becoming a must-see film

Mark Young myoung@foghornnews.com   Telling the largely unknown story of the black women who were a vital part in the space race, “Hidden Figures” is a must-see movie of an eye-opening perspective on a major event in U.S. history. Directed by Theodore Melfi, best known for 2014’s “St. Vincent,” “Hidden Figures” stars Taraji P. Henson, Janelle Monáe and Octavia Spencer as three mathematicians in 1962 who deal with racism and sexism to try to reach the top of their field. In high school history, everyone remembers learning about the Cold War, the space race and the moon landing. However,…

La La Land Review: A 1950’s musical: 21st Century Edition

Mark Young myoung@foghornnews.com   Director Damien Chazelle has become a force to be reckoned with ever since 2014s “Whiplash,” and with “La La Land,” Chazelle becomes one of the best directors around. The musical starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone is fine-tuned and exact; however, it also panders to the people who made the movie. The Hollywood musical hasn’t been a constant force in film for many years now. Buying books? Explore all your options before buying

Unlike the three previous water boils this year the water cannot be boiled or filtered to make it safe for use. According to the Caller Times, two chemicals, Indulin AA-86 and hydrochloric acid, were found in the water supply. The campuses remained open today and the school made bottled water and hand sanitizer available to staff as…

‘Gilmore Girls’ return is a love-letter to fans

Hit series moves to Netflix 16 years after original debut When “Gilmore Girls” debuted on the WB (RIP) in 2000, the show stood apart from the rest of television. IT was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, a woman; starred two women, Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel; and was, in a sense, for women. For seven years, the show created a fast-paced world full of pop culture references and family problems. Nearly a decade later, Netflix is reviving the show and bringing viewers back to the world of Stars Hollow. “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” once again follows the exploits…
