Drama Students stage ‘Twentieth Century’

The Drama Department will open its fall production, “Twentieth Century,” on Nov. 9 in the Sue Sellors Finley Theatre. The play is a comedy-farce set in the 1930s aboard the Twentieth Century Limited train travelling from Chicago to New York City. Originally a classic comedy by playwrights Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur it has been updated and adapted by Ken Ludwig into its current version. Drama major Logan Berger plays Oscar Jaffe, the lead character. Jaffe is a struggling Broadway director who is making one last-ditch effort to win over former lover Lily Garland, played by Krysten Garcia. This production…

Tour explores sculpture collection

The All Work and No Clay sculpture tour featured 3-D artistic sculptures from nationwide artists. Del Mar alumna Sarah Pons led the Oct. 18 tour of the Library Sculpture Gallery, on the fifth floor of the White Library. Kenneth Rosier, chairman of the Art & Drama Department, said the tour is the art department’s initial test at the idea of what museums refer to as a docent tour. A docent is when a trained individual guides a tour and explains the depth of an artwork. Rosier said the department is looking out for the interest and response for the tour.…

Faculty members show art at annual exhibition

Artist mingle with fans, discuss works during opening night   The Joseph A. Cain Memorial Art Gallery showcased original art from more than a dozen Del Mar College faculty members as it kicked off the annual Faculty Art Exhibition on Sept. 21. Artists such as Amorette Garza, Gerardo Cobarruvias, Ken Rosier and Kerstin Dale made a special appearance and greeted the crowd. The artists discussed with the guests the meanings and inspirations behind each creation. Juried Student Art Exhibition now open

Walking through the second floor hallway of the Fine Arts Building, students will likely notice several works of art. They are part of the 29th annual Juried Student Art Exhibition, which kicked off March 30. Student Art Association members collected student artwork for the exhibition, which is free and open to the public and also features some works for sale. More than $2,500 was awarded to students with winning pieces in the show. The artwork will be on display through April 27. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 9 a.m. to noon Fridays.

Heritage and heart inspire art

‘My Casa is Your Casa’ features work from students Located in the center of the Cain Art Gallery you will come upon a sculpture of two busts. One is looking up and one is looking down. Each bust is overlaid with an antique print with a solemn expression.
