Volleyball tourney kicks off intramural sports

There are a variety of sports and activities planned this semester, including fan favorites like volleyball, basketball and football. The 100 Mile Challenge and 500,000 Step Challenge will also return. The 100 Mile Challenge is when a student has to attempt to reach 100 miles. This can be done by biking, swimming or running. Collegiate High School to get UIL events

Students can compete in Academic Competitions Collegiate High School students will soon be able to participate in University Interscholastic League Academic events for the first time. Collegiate High School, which started at Del Mar College in 2006, was initially not designed to be a UIL participant. Because of growing student interest, the school’s administration submitted a proposal and was approved for consideration this academic year. Students will be able to compete this school year in UIL Academic Competitions in various disciplines or subject matters; however, the campus has not yet made these selections. Mia Estrada Collegiate High School Sabah Mohammad remembers the Saturday morning vividly, abruptly awakened by the screams of her mother being viciously attacked. The 20-year-old Collegiate student recalls the shock of her and her younger brother standing in the living room, seeing their mother being stabbed by their father. New Early College Program Coordinator living the dream

Mia Estrada Collegiate High School   Creamsicle, a small stray kitten, makes her way out of the branches near the Harvin Center with her two other feral friends, Schnitzel and Raven. “As we’ve learned, we have to give each little kitten their own little container of food or they’ll steal from each other,” said Allison Dozier, caretaker of kittens on campus. Collegiate teacher arrested for sexual relationship with student

Mark Young myoung@foghornnews.com   A Collegiate High School teacher was arrested Jan. 30 after telling Corpus Christi police that he had a sexual relationship with a former student, according to an arrest affidavit. Brian Sellers, who has taught English and speech at Collegiate since 2008, has been charged with having an improper relationship between an educator and a student, a second-degree felony. His bail was set at $50,000. Sellers turned himself in to police at about 8 p.m. on Jan. 30, then waived his rights and gave a video and audio confession, according to the affidavit.
