Collegiate students get first taste of college classes

Jan. 17 was the first day students began college classes and the semester will end on May 10. Starting a new semester for students brings stress and excitement. DEA agent tells students about dangers of drugs

Mia Estrada Red Ribbon Week was full of activities for Collegiate High School students. The week, which began Oct. 24, had themes including Turn Your Back Monday, Team Up Against Drugs Tuesday, Lei Off Drugs Wednesday, Superhero Thursday and Crazy Sock Friday. These themes were planned by the Student Council, which allowed for students to engage with the subject matter of the fight against drugs. This is the week students piece together more of their future professions. Green Ribbon Week was initially discussed with Student Council officials; they established the structure of different themes for each day of the week. Early college programs

Del Mar College provides eligible high school students the opportunity to earn college-level credits while concurrently working toward a high school diploma. Students have access to the college’s facilities and services, including campus libraries, computer labs, academic and career planning services and more. Collegiate High School, which resides on the College’s East Campus, and Harold T. Branch Academy, which is located adjacent to West Campus, are collaborative partners between Corpus Christi Independent School District and Del Mar to provide high school- and college-level studies. Isabella Gutierrez Collegiate High School The Coastal Bend Area College and Career Night Expo opened its door at 7 p.m. Oct. 11 with high school and prospective transfer students pouring in just to get their chance to speak with college representatives, career experts and admissions counselors. When Marissa Gonzalez was 6 years old, she attended her eldest brother’s graduation at Moody High School. After hearing an empowering speech delivered by the class valedictorian, Marissa knew she would one day hold that position. On that day, Marissa made it her goal to graduate at the top of her class. Collegiate High School’s Junior Politicians Club held their first multi-party public forum in the Retama Room in the Harvin Center on Oct. 22. Three members of the Democratic, Republican and Green parties gave a basic understanding of each ideology to help the public understand what each party is about.
